Overview
Botswana’s Chobe National Park has the largest concentration of elephants in Africa, with over 120,000 elephants, while the Okavango Delta, historically connected to Chobe, is the world’s largest inland delta where the Okavango River empties into the Kalahari Desert instead of the sea. Okavango delta was declared UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2014 and it is one of the few inland deltas in the world which is declared a biodiversity hotspot.
The Okavango is home to the big 5 and it has over 500 different bird species. Chobe National Park is 11, 700 Square kilometres and the Okavango is 15 000 square kilometres during the peak season and drops to about 8 000 square kilometres during the dry season.
